BEGINNING OF THE 24th MELODRAMFEST – September 2021

The spring prologue of the festival could not take place this year due to the still ongoing anticronavirus measures. Most of the planned programs had to be postponed to autumn (see program). The first concert of this season is the Congratulatory Concert for the 60^th birthday of Jiří Bezděk, an author whose compositions were performed, among other places, at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, France, on the day of the Czech Republic’s accession to the European Union. Today he is a professor at the Prague HAMU, where he heads the Department of Music Theory and a prof. at the Faculty of Education of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. His compositions have been released on a number of CDs and are published by the German publishing house Edition Brendel. Prof. Jiří Bezděk is a member of the SZF committee and the director of the International Z. Fibich Competition in Composition of Melodrama. You will hear a cross-section of his work on September 13 at 7.30 pm in the House of Arts in Pilsen and on September 16 at 7.30 pm in the HAMU Gallery in Prague.
